• WORLD CLASS TRAINING – As we always say, a trained driver is an effective and productive driver. California Tow Truck Association offers incredible training opportunities through the Emergency Road Service Coalition of America (ERSCA) platform at discounted rates for our members.
o Intro to Towing – Excellent online entry level training for new operators onboarding/orientation.
o Essentials of Standard Duty Towing & Recovery – Outstanding training program for all drivers who operate any towing or service unit under 26,000 lbs. Meets the TSAAC/CHP requirements for Operators working with the motoring public under the direction of the California Highway Patrol along with local law enforcement agencies and many of the motor clubs.
o Electric Vehicles – New for 2024. No prerequisite however those who have taken Essentials of Standard Duty Towing & Recovery and have a current certificate, this will qualify as continuing education and will be issued a certificate that meets the TSAAC/CHP requirements.
o Advanced Winch & Rigging Safety for Standard Duty – New for 2024. No prerequisite however those who have taken Essentials of Standard Duty Towing & Recovery and have a current certificate, this will qualify as continuing education and will be issued a certificate that meets the TSAAC/CHP requirements.
o Essentials of Heavy Duty Towing & Recovery – For operators who operate towing units above 26,000 GVW. Commercial License or Permit are the only prerequisite requirements. Meets the TSAAC/CHP requirements for Operators working with the motoring public under the direction of the California Highway Patrol along with local law enforcement agencies and many of the motor clubs.
o Advanced Winch & Rigging Safety for Heavy Duty – New for 2024. Commercial License or Permit is the only prerequisite requirements. Operators who have taken Essentials of Heavy-Duty Towing & Recovery and have a current certificate, this will qualify as continuing education and will be issued a certificate that meets the TSAAC/CHP requirements.
o Electronic Certificates – for all training events that meet the TSAAC/CHP requirements. These certificates are QR code protected so the receiver can verify the issuance and expiration can be validated.

In order to register for a CTTA Training Class, you or your company must have an account in myCTTA. Once you have your login information, click “Login to myCTTA” in the menu of our wesbsite and click “Find a Class“. Download the myCTTA user guide HERE. If you need help with your myCTTA account, send us an email or call the office at 916-617-2882.
After we’ve processed your registration, you will receive a purchase confirmation by email. You can also view the classes you have purchased seats in and the drivers you have signed up for them under the “My Classes” tab in myCTTA. If you do not receive a confirmation by the next business day, please contact the CTTA office at (916) 617-2882.
No. The California Tow Truck Association does not accept onsite registrations. If you wish to attend a Light Duty or Heavy Duty class you must register here at least three days before the class.
We try to accommodate everyone. However, once a light duty or heavy duty class is full, the CTTA office will close the class. Your best course of action is to register for another upcoming class that is close to your location. You will not be admitted to the class if you have not registered.
Yes, non-members can register for all CTTA Training Classes. However, the cost for non-members to attend a light duty class is $440, and $560 to attend a heavy duty class. In order for you to register for a class at the member rate, your company may join the California Tow Truck Association. Click here to learn more about Membership
If you fail either the Light Duty or Heavy Duty exam, you will receive a retest code so you can get a discounted rate your 2nd time. You may register for a future class and attend each day of instruction or take the test only on the last day of instruction. However, you must register for the class as you would for any other class- just use the provided re-test code at checkout to receive the retest rate. The cost for a Light Duty retest is $50 and $75 for Heavy Duty.
If you arrive late, or cannot attend the class you are registered for, you will receive a reschedule code. The cost to reschedule is $75 for a Light Duty class and $125 for a Heavy Duty class.
You will need to wear your tow company uniform and pants to each class. It is also essential that you wear work boots with a minimum oil resistant sole. For the hand-on portion of the classes you should bring eye protection, hardhat, coveralls, knee pads, and sunglasses.
It is recommended that students attending the Heavy Duty class bring either a 3 axle heavy duty truck-wrecker or a 2 axle medium tow truck-wrecker. You do not need to bring a tow truck to the Light Duty Classes.
Each host company will provide refreshments and lunch on both days of the Light Duty training. Refreshments and lunch will be supplied on all three days of Heavy Duty training.
Yes. You can change a driver. However, we must receive your request at least 3 days prior to the class. Call the CTTA office at 916-617-2882 to make student changes.
Refunds can be processed 7 days before the date of the class.
If you would like to host either a Light Duty Level 1 class or a Heavy Duty Level 6 class, please take a look at the documents to the right. These documents outline the requirements of a host company for facilitating a successful class and must be filled out and sent to the CTTA office.
Yes! The CTTA wants to extend our thanks to Veterans for their service by providing their first Light-Duty Level 1 registration at zero cost. The discount can only be applied once and does not apply to Heavy-Duty training. Call CTTA Headquarters for more details at (916) 617-2882
